CHANDIGARH: A group of PEC students have come up with a robot that can simplify rescue operations and warfare. Called "Robofone," the robot was created using an android phone and the idea came to them as they were surfing TV channels randomly. The robot can easily detect criminals' faces and even open fire.
PEC's Open house kicked off on Tuesday with a host of technological innovations displayed for school students.

The best three projects were evaluated as an annual ritual on campus.
The team from the electronics department, comprising fourth year students Abhinav Sharma, Naman Kumar and Akshit Bansal developed the Robofone, which has won the first prize. "We used the android phone, three android applications, robo chat, face detection and gaming, an intel kit, blutetooth module and the screen for view to create the robot," said Abhinav.
Besides its obvious applicability in the military sector, the robot can also be used to clean AC ducts and as fire extinguishers, especially in places people find difficult to enter.
"The robot has multiple applications. In a rescue operation, Army men or intelligence officials can use the robot to open fire on the ground after detecting objects or by viewing it on a screen, making it as easy as a video game," explained a group member. Students have put together the model at an estimated cost of Rs12,000 to Rs15,000. "There is a Bluetooth module we have installed in the robot, which can be used individually as well. If a person has lost his purse, or something valuable, an alarm will ring, making it easy to detect," said Naman.
